“I will make you a light of the nations”

Rising power among the nations

In his speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 19, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about how Israel is reaching out to world nations to improve and advance cooperation in several fields. While there are nations who refuse to have any contact with the Jewish state, new doors are opening to the countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and South America. In 2017, the Prime Minister made a record number of state visits around the globe, strengthening warm relations with other heads of states. After the most recent travel, he said:

“We are in the midst of a great revolution, a revolution in Israel’s standing among the nations.” The Prime Minister continued by saying that this is happening because, after 70 years, the world is embracing Israel, and Israel is embracing the world.

For the United Nations, the Prime Minister had some critical words after recalling the recent UN anti-Semitic resolutions condemning Israel for its presence in the Eternal City and denying any Jewish history related to Judaism’s holiest sites.

In addition, the Prime Minister said that UNESCO has declared the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron to be a Palestinian World Heritage site. He stated that this is no longer fake news but fake history.

The Prime Minister continued by saying that those who want to study about Jewish history in Jerusalem, Hebron and other Jewish holy sites, should refer to the Bible, which he highly recommends and reads every week.

The Prime Minister is correct as the Bible has much to say about Jewish history all over the land of Israel. As evidence about the accuracy of the Bible, many well-known archaeologists rely on and study the Scriptures to gain more knowledge about the discoveries they make in excavations.

Promise from Above

As a life-long defender of the State of Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu has for years drawn attention to Iran’s missile development and growing aggression in the region. Iran’s leaders have clearly declared their intention to wipe Israel off the map. Iran is pledging to extinguish the light and life of Israel. At the UNGA meeting in September, the Prime Minister had a response to Iran’s dictator, stating:

“The light of Israel will never be extinguished.”

PM Netanyahu referred to prophet Isaiah about salvation and Israel: “It is not enough that you are merely my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the offspring of Israel. I will also make you a light to the nations, so my salvation can spread to the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6 CJB). Prophet Isaiah continues about the special place Israel has in God’s plans: “Thus says the LORD…’Kings shall see and arise. Princes shall bow down because of the Lord who is Faithful, the Holy One of Israel Who has chosen You’” (Isaiah 49:7 NASB).
